STELLA McCARTNEY SHOWS HER NEW LINE

PARIS

Stella McCartney paid homage to her famous parents with a collection of 1970s bohemian dresses, loose jumpsuits and high-waisted trousers on Monday.
Her father, former Beatle Paul McCartney, sat beaming in the front row, watching models sashay past in vibrant red ruffled sun dresses and low cork wedge heels named after his late wife Linda, the designer's mother.
"It was as fabulous as ever, it was inventive, beautiful and feminine -- and she's my baby," Paul McCartney told reporters after the show.
The collection featured plenty of Stella McCartney's trademark casual, wearable clothes, which is likely to cheer executives at the Gucci Group, owner of the brand.
Masculine blazers, shirt dresses and a loose jumpsuit were meant to evoke a "summer elegance and energy," she told Reuters, while the shoes were inspired by her mother.
"I'm always inspired by my mum," Stella McCartney said backstage. "I wanted to capture a woman that's naturally confident enough with herself to wear a lower heel, and I think we got that, and that's the Linda shoe."
There have been few surprises at the spring/summer 2010 shows, with designers following a commercial lead, digging into their archives and opting for flattering, feminine cuts.
One of the more challenging looks for next summer is the 1950s-style high-waisted culotte, which was seen in Milan and re-appeared in Paris at a series of shows including McCartney, Christian Dior and Jean-Paul Gaultier.
Ron Frasch, president and chief merchandising officer of Saks Fifth Avenue, said buyers for the big department stores were still cautious and looking for clothes with an emotional appeal to consumers.
"Designers are going back to what they do well," he told Reuters at the Giambattista Valli show on Monday.

JOHN LENNON SIGNED MAGAZINE SELLS FOR $12,713

AMHERST, N.H. -- A 1966 magazine signed by John Lennon containing his remark that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus has sold for $12,713.
An orthopedia surgeon at New York's Mount Sinai Medical Center had the winning bid Thursday in a 17-day online auction run by RR Auction of Amherst, N.H.
Lennon signed "John C. Lennon" above his photo in the September 1966 "Datebook," even though his middle initial is W. for Winston.
In the magazine, Lennon said: "Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue about that; I'm right and I will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now. I don't know which will go first - rock 'n' roll or Christianity."
His comment provoked much anti-Beatle sentiment in the United States, where some people burned their Beatle records.

A NEW SONG BY THE BEATLES

A lost track by The Beatles, 'Now And Then', is set to be released after Sir Paul McCartney spent the past two years working on it.

A new Beatles song is to be released.

'Now And Then' - which was composed by John Lennon in 1978 and later worked on by Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr when they reunited to work on the Beatles Anthology project in 1995 - never got released, but McCartney has been adding to it and is now keen for fans to hear the track.

A source said: "The Beatles song 'Now And Then' is finished. All four Beatles are on the track. The original Beatles reunion version from 1995 was embellished with numerous sessions over the last two years by Paul McCartney.

"He wants the song to come out very badly."

As well as featuring Lennon - who was shot dead in 1980 - and McCartney on vocals, Harrison, who passed away in 2001, also sings backing vocals and plays guitar.

If the track does get a release it will be the first new Beatles song to come out since 1996's 'Real Love', which was composed by Lennon and later re-recorded by McCartney, Harrison and Starr with Lennon's original vocal part.

McCartney, 67, had also wanted to release the unheard 'Carnival of Light', a 14-minute composition, but Harrison was against the plans.

SIR PAUL TALKS OF THE KING OF POP !

Legendary musician Paul McCartney took time out from rehearsals Friday for his concert next week in Halifax to discuss a range of topics, including his sentimental feelings for the late pop star Michael Jackson.

The former Beatle, who spoke with CBC News ahead of his July 11 concert, recorded a number of songs in the 1980s with Jackson, who died suddenly last week.

He remembers the day Jackson called his private number. He didn't expect the call.

"He rang me up and said, 'Do you want to make some hits?'"

Those hits included Say, Say, Say and The Girl is Mine.

"I'll just remember Michael for being a huge talent and a great guy to be with. A very gracious, innocent, fun-loving guy, really. We just had a lot of fun together," McCartney said.

The two drifted apart over the years. There was a fight over publishing rights after Jackson bought the Lennon-McCartney song catalogue.

McCartney says he's over that now.

'I've got enough'

"Basically, I was a longtime worker looking for a raise. And we could never really talk about it and it never really happened. For a couple of months I was miffed, like anyone would be. But I soon got over it. I said, 'You know what, I've got enough.'"

Not enough musically, though.

McCartney will have centre stage next week at the Halifax Common — his only concert in Canada this year. About 60,000 fans are expected.

Rehearsals in England started on Thursday.

"They're going great. We're beginning to know what we're doing," he said.

McCartney has had countless hits over the decades and has legions of fans around the world. At 67, he just can't stop playing music.

"The truth is, I love what I do. I feel very lucky to be allowed to get out in front of a crowd, plug an electric bass in or guitar, and play and sing," he said. "I think I'd do it as a hobby if I didn't do it as a living."

It's tough to picture McCartney, who was knighted by the Queen, playing in a weekend bar band. But he insists he's a "normal" guy. There's no entourage of bodyguards and stylists when he heads to the movies or grocery store.

"When people get to know me, they're very surprised how normal part of my life is," he said.

"I go down to the shops, stand at the checkout counter just like anyone else. And I actually like it because it gives me a feeling of balance. You know, I feel like I'm keeping my feet on the ground."

Of course, fans want him to pose for pictures ["Everyone has a camera"].

"I say, 'No, do you mind, I'm shopping and it's kind of private.' People say, 'I understand,' and they leave me alone. Or we chat."

If McCartney ever needs a dose of humility, he can just turn to 5½-year-old Beatrice, his daughter with ex-wife Heather Mills. Beatrice may be the only person in the world who asks him to stop singing.

"She doesn't like it. And then she sings me something and she takes over," he said with a laugh. "I'm afraid High School Musical has got more stages in our house than I have."

Fans in Halifax shouldn't be surprised when he dips into his huge catalogue of songs and pulls out the fan favourites. After all these years, McCartney says he doesn't mind hearing the old songs on the radio.

Old songs, old friends

He calls the Beatles and Wings songs "good records" that also bring back a flood of memories.

"The combination of all that is nice. It's actually why I do more old songs in my show now. I used to kind of try and shy away from that a bit and think I must do new material. But people kind of like it. And I'm just the same. If a song works, it works."

The old tunes are also like old friends. They help him through the tough times.

"If I didn't love music and have it in my life, when difficulties arise and people pass away, I think it would be much more difficult for me," he said.

"Particularly in the case of John or George, I can listen to their music. In Linda's case, I can listen to our Wings records and reminisce.

"Music in general is very healing. So I'm very grateful to have music be so big a part of my life. I don't know where I'd be without it."

Paul To Play New York Citi Field This July

PAUL MCCARTNEY PERFORMS FIRST EVER CONCERTS AT NEW YORK’S CITI FIELD ON FRIDAY, JULY 17 & SATURDAY, JULY 18, 2009

McCartney Returns to New York to Continue Inaugural Concert Tradition

Tickets Go On Sale Monday, June 15 at 10:00 A.M ET - Online Exclusively at www.507TIXX.com and By Phone at 718-507-TIXX

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 3, 2009 – Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Paul McCartney will perform the historic first concerts at Citi Field – the new home of the Mets – Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18.

Tickets go on sale Monday, June 15 at 10:00 A.M. ET online exclusively at www.507TIXX.com and by phone at 718-507-TIXX. These concerts are rain or shine.

These inaugural concert events at Citi Field mark the latest in a series of landmark performances that link the beloved Beatle with New York City and the home of the Mets. Beginning with The Beatles’ legendary musical christening of Shea Stadium in 1965, and continuing with McCartney’s special appearance at Billy Joel’s “Last Play at Shea” show that closed the stadium last year, McCartney’s summer shows at Citi Field will once again mark a momentous occasion in the history of New York – and rock n’ roll itself.

PAUL MCCARTNEY QUOTE:
"I am really excited about playing Citi Field - The Beatles were the first to play at Shea Stadium and along with Billy Joel I was the last to sing at the old Shea. So to be the first to play this stadium is incredible. I am really looking forward to a buzzing show."

“Every time Paul McCartney steps on a stage is a special event because of the timelessness of the music and the enthusiasm and verve that this icon gives to each performance,” said Randy Phillips, President & CEO of AEG Live. “Christening Citi Field as a venue will give this concert the added weight of the historical significance of The Beatles appearance at Shea Stadium 44 years ago.”

"There's no more appropriate artist in the history of rock and roll to play the first concert at Citi Field," said Jeff Wilpon, COO, New York Mets. "The era of big-time rock and roll concerts started with Paul and The Beatles at Shea and we're thrilled to continue that tradition at our new home."

The Citi Field concerts on July 17 and July 18 will feature classics from McCartney’s extensive catalog, including Beatles, Wings and solo career hits as well as selections from his most recent album Electric Arguments, released under his alias The Fireman.

Additionally, the Citi Field shows will be McCartney's first U.S. appearances since his recent headlining stand at the first night of this year's Coachella festival and the same weekend's record-breaking one-off opening of the new Joint in Las Vegas. Reactions to the two sold out 2.5 hour performances were unanimously ecstatic from fans and critics alike:

"McCartney remains a sharp and agile performer, his voice as supple, warm and elastic as ever... Macca signatures Let It Be and The Long and Winding Road... still have the power to raise gooseflesh." -- USA TODAY

"The verdict from his Coachella debut on Friday? Never underestimate the power of a Beatle... The night belonged to Paul." -- LOS ANGELES TIMES

"For almost two and a half hours, he had the attention of what seemed to be the entire multigenerational festival" -- THE NEW YORK TIMES

"Everything you could ask for in a McCartney set. Stunning. Beautiful." -- LA WEEKLY

"The concert of a lifetime" -- LAS VEGAS CITYLIFE

The Beatles gave the first-ever concert at Shea Stadium on August 15, 1965, in front of more than 55,000 fainting, crying, and screaming fans. It was, and remains to this day, the most historic concert ever, as it was the first time in history that a sports stadium was used for a rock concert. The groundbreaking Beatles concert at Shea set new attendance records at the time; it was the first large-scale, outdoor concert that demonstrated such events could be hugely successful and profitable.

On July 18, 2008, Paul McCartney returned to Shea for the first time in 43 years for an unannounced guest performance at Billy Joel’s “Last Play at Shea” concert. His signature Hofner bass in hand, McCartney jumped on stage – surprising not only Joel but also the sold-out audience of 55,000 – and launched straight into “I Saw Her Standing There.” McCartney closed the night with his seminal anthem “Let It Be” featuring Joel on backing vocals, giving the legendary Shea Stadium a truly memorable send-off. That show ended just as McCartney’s first-ever performance at Shea with The Beatles had started – with a deafening response from the massive crowd.

GOOGLE PULLS PAULS HOUSE

LONDON, May 22 (UPI) -- Photos of Paul McCartney's London house were removed from the locator Web site Google Street View after the rock N roll star's security team complained.

The Daily Telegraph said the Web site, which was launched in England in March, has been criticized for allegedly violating people's privacy, and making residents vulnerable to burglars and other villains.

"He was unsettled when he heard Google users could get a 360-degree view of the property," The Sun newspaper quoted a source as saying about McCartney.

A Google spokesman told the tabloid anyone can eliminate their house from the Web site by clicking a button.

"Since the launch of Street View, millions have used it and the vast majority are very happy to have their house included," the spokesman added.

GREEN CARD FOOTAGE OF JOHN LENNON FOUND

The directors of the new documentary The U.S. vs. John Lennon found a key piece of archival footage only weeks before the film was scheduled to wrap production. The film, which was released last month, chronicles Lennon's four-year fight to legally remain in the U.S. For years, the footage of Lenon and wife Yoko Ono appearing on July 27th, 1976 at the Department of Neutralization and Immigration in New York City was thought to have been lost forever.

David Leaf, who co-directed the film which documents Lennon's harassment by the Nixon administration, told us that the footage was discovered during the production's eleventh hour: "You know, we had interviewed people who were there and they had told us what John said outside the building, but to find John saying that, it's so impactful. You know, he thanks his fans, he makes the classic comment, 'Time wounds all heels.' We found that three weeks before we finished the movie. It was in a mismarked reel."

The footage of Lennon was shot for WABC-TV in New York.

The U.S. vs. John Lennon, which was produced with the cooperation and participation of Yoko Ono, is in theatres now.

WORLD FAIR TRADE DAY WITH SIR PAUL

On Saturday May 9, World Fair Trade Day will celebrate its 60th birthday. “Big Bang” is the celebration theme this year, which means everyone’s invited to "bang something (anything) with spoons, sticks, hands, fingers, friends, family, neighbours, a crowd, an audience, a solution. Beat poverty beat climate change beat economic crisis." The day of global celebrations in over 80 countries will kick off at dawn with a solo drummer in New Zealand starting the beat, with the intent to continue the rhythm around the world until reaching Samoa at sunset for the close of the celebrations.
Major supporter of the global event Sir Paul McCartney says, “Fair Trade is essential for millions of people who work and struggle for survival every day. It’s all about justice and human rights.”
Aside from banging your drum all day on May 9, you can support Fair Trade everyday by buying Fair Trade products like chocolate, bananas, rice, coffee, sugar, clothing and flowers. Look for the Transfair Fair Trade logo on products in your local stores, or go online to look for Fair Trade retailers close to you.

Ono will send the leaders two acorns each, in a transparent box with the inscription "Acorn Peace by John and Yoko, Spring 2009."

SIR PAUL AND PAM

But when trusty BEATLES legend PAUL MCCARTNEY gets involved, curves and cleavage are swapped for climate change and crop yields.

The animal-rights activist penned a two-page "letter regarding livestock and greenhouse gases" calling on the Baywatch actress to help spread the word of vegetarianism.

BEATLES ROCK BAND

Game Stop just announced details of the Beatles Rock Band Limited Edition Premium Bundle. According to an email sent out, the Bundle will include a a Hofner bass, "The Beatles-inspired and Ludwig-branded Rock Band drums with classic pearl finish, a metal kick pedal and a vintage replica drum head," a microphone and stand, as well as "additional special content." We're guessing that the drum set's careful description means it'll be an embellished Rock Band 2 drum set, rather than an accurate replica of Ludwig drums.

BRITISH BEATLES

History of The Beatles can be traced back to March 1957, when John Lennon and his childhood friend, Pete Shotton started a group called "The Black Jacks" to play Skiffle and America Rock and Roll. Later they changed the name to "The Quarry Men". Their gigs were mostly neighborhood events.

July 6, 1957, John Lennon along with "The Quarry Men" had just finished performing at St. Peter's Parish Church in Woolton, Liverpool when fellow group member and childhood friend Ivan Vaughn introduced him to a guitarist named James Paul McCartney who played "Twenty Flight Rock" for John.On Feb 6, 1958, Paul introduced George to John. George persisted over time to convinced a reluctant John to allow him to join The Quarry Men-even following him on his dates with his future wife Cynthia Powell. On Aug. 29th, 1958, John accepted George into The Quarry Men, which would then grow into seven members. The Quarry Men disbanded in 1959 due to lack of gigs. George joined another group which disbanded, then, he and fellow group member Ken Brown united with John and Paul for seven Saturday performances at the new Casbah Club, from Aug 29, 1959 until Oct 10 when a financial dispute ended their relationships with the club and Ken Brown. The trio continued as "Johnny and the Moondogs" with Paul on drums. Ken formed a group with Pete Best, the son of the Casbah's club owner and continued performing there. In Jan. 1960, John invited a fellow art student Stu Sutcliff to join the group on the condition he got his own bass. In May They renamed themselves The "Beetles" (as a tribute to Stu's favorite band "Buddy Holly & The Crickets", then, The"Silver Beetles". Allan Williams became their manager. In June, they modified their name to the "Silver Beatles".Aug 16th, The Beatles persuaded Brian Epstein to fire Best; Jimmy Hutchinson was first offered the drumming spot but declined, and Ringo Star was hired, due in part because of his superior drumming, and his more compatible personality. Although, he had an offer from Gerry and the Pacemakers, he finally settled on The Beatles because they had gotten a record contract.
